We're expecting very strong winds and rain today which means we very well may lose power. I'm not worried though; I'm prepared.

We're up to $240! Way to go people; that's a great start. Now, as the title suggests, I have another prize to show you. Heather of Sereknity is an incredibly talented fiber artist with a gift for combining colors in the most goregeous ways. She has created a very special colorway in honor of my soon to be born (December) grand-daughter and has donated a skein of it as a prize!
Check out that name - Sweet Clover! Isn't it gorgeous? It's even more so in person. That's 400 yards of hand- dyed fingering weight yarn in 60% superwash merino, 30% bamboo, and 10% Nylon. It is so soft and so beautiful. Want to own it? Donate for a chance to win it; the winner of this yarn is going to be very pleased, indeed! (Remember, you can be entered for a chance to win prizes by donating and/or by mentioning my efforts, with a link, on your blog).
Not only did Heather donate a skein of Sweet Clover as a prize, she also gave one to me! She's such a sweetheart; thank you so much Heather; you don't know how much it means to me.
Now onto the recap in pictures:
Patti and I headed down to Spencer-Pierce-Little Farm in Newbury, MA on Saturday for the Fiber Revival. What a great day (aside from a bit of wind) and what a beautiful place to hold this event. This was Heather's first vendor booth and I'm guessing she had a great day since we were only able to get over to talk with her at the beginning and end of the day. Every time I thought I'd go say "hi" and see how she was doing, her booth was packed.
Here's a picture of a rare quiet moment in the booth with her and Patti:
Sorry the picture's so dark.
There were lots of spinners and knitters:
This little brown one was soooo soft; that's Lora's little Nathan (the cute guy with the red hair) feeling just how soft.
The white one was incredibly shiny and looked soft, but he wouldn't let me get near enough to pet him. But he let this little girl get pretty close - he belongs to her family's farm.
There was a weaver demonstrating her craft and there were a couple of circular sock machines; don't know why I didn't get pictures. I must have been having a senior moment :-)
I did get a picture of Nancy from Hair of the Dog, spinning some dog hair.
The hat she's wearing is made with dog hair and she had some items there that were made with dog hair and OMG, they are soft! Looks like Patti may be contemplating having her doggies' hair spun.
And finally, my Saturday Sky (late again):
Have a great day!
I'm often amazed at how many wonderful friends I've met through this little blog of mine. Sometimes my daughter tells me I'm weird to call people I've never "met" friends. Other times, she'll say to Jay or one of her friends, "Look what my Mom's friend did (or sent)" or she'll sit with me looking at someone's blog with pictures of their beautiful yarn or pets or kids). Although I've not met most of you in person, I feel like I know you better than a lot of people I know in my so called "real" life and you are all very special to me.
I've been friends with Sara for a while now, although we hadn't had the opportunity to meet in person until this past weekend. She took a few days for herself and went to see The Harlot in Burlington, MA and made some stops to visit various friends over the weekend. Portsmouth was her last stop, where I met up with her and Cheryl. We walked a bit, then had a really yummy lunch at Portsmouth Gaslight Co. After lunch we went to Rye to drive along the beach and check out the yarn shop, Yarn for Ewe (no website that I can find). Then we went to Prescott Park and walked around the gardens; it was a lovely day and it was great to finally meet Sara in person and to meet Cheryl. I didn't know Cheryl before Saturday, but I'm sure I'll be seeing more of her.
Cheryl and Sara in Prescott Park
And here's my (very late) Saturday Sky taken from Prescott Park:
Another friend I met through the blog is Carole; I met her in person in February at SPA, then hubby and I got together with her and her hubby when we were in Boston in March. As those of you who read her blog know, Carole has a "few" spinning wheels. She told me back in March that she likes to loan out the first wheel she ever owned, "Alice", to friends who are learning to spin. Well, when I got home from school last week, there was an e-mail waiting for me from Carole saying that Alice would like to come stay with me for a while. You can't believe how excited I am to have this opportunity! I've been saving my pennies (and nickles, dimes, quarters...) toward buying a wheel of my own and figured I'd try a few different types before buying; but as Cheryl said to me Saturday, testing wheels when you don't yet know how spin is like test driving cars when you don't know how to drive. How are you supposed to know what you want? So, Alice will be coming to visit me soon and I just can not wait. Thank you, Carole!
Speaking of Carole, please send good thoughts her way. A very dear friend of hers was killed in a motorcycle accident Tuesday.
One minute I was floating around in the pool, reading my book and enjoying the hot sun. The next minute, I was racing to get out of the pool as the clouds and thunder were moving quickly overhead.
Right now I am sitting inside watching the thunder and lightening storm outside the window. I keep jumping at every roar of thunder or bolt of lightening, but I sit here in my wet bathing suit hoping it'll pass by quickly. I just know that once I change, the sun will come back out.
In knitting news, Ella's sweater is finished except for the seaming. There are only 2 seams, but I think I'll wait and bring it to the gym tomorrow morning and do it there. I want to work on the SKB tonight; I'd like to finish it before it's too cold to wear it.
I'll be away at school next week; I'm leaving shortly after work tomorrow. Not sure how much internet access I'll have. I'm hoping there'll be connections in the rooms, but I'm not counting on it. I'm hoping I'll have at least some limited access and if I do, I'll be in touch.
Have a great week, everyone :)
ETA: The thunder and lightening has stopped, the rain is almost gone and the National Weather Service has just now issued a "Severe Thunderstorm Warning" for our area. Sheesh!
What do these all have in common? This is what:
Pattern: River Valley Socks by Anni Design
Yarn: Tofutsies, color 793
Needles: Crystal Palace size 2 dpn
This one pair of socks fills the June requirements for three Knit Alongs; Sockamania, SAM3, and Holiday Headstart. Whew! I finished them just in time. (I just have to weave in the ends on one sock)
Seeing as it's Saturday, here's my Saturday Sky:
Don't forget to enter the contest; you have until midnight tonight.
Now, I'm going to go float in the pool; have a wonderful day!
It was a beautiful day for a Graduation party.
My nephew, Tony, graduated from High School Thursday night.
He was so serious marching in.
"I'd better get out of here before they realize they made a mistake!" ;-)
Karlene (my brother's fiance'), "Big" Tony, "Lil" Tony, Heather (Tony's sister)
Tony and Papa (My dad is not a short man; "Lil" Tony is about 6' 4") .
Just a few pictures from the Graduation party today:
Tony looked a bit more relaxed.
My great-niece, Kayla, enjoyed a good lunch.
My Dad played Chef.
Some dipped their feet in the pool:
While others went all the way in:
I won't bore you with all the pictures from the party; but if you'd like to see them, click here.
It really was a very nice day. Congratulations, Tony!
I'm posting my Saturday Sky picture late again this week. Saturday's weather was pretty nasty and you could barely see the sky, so I took a drive around town to find a picture that would be a bit more interesting than just a grey blob.
As you can see, Saturday was no day for the pool, but that was okay because I had other plans anyway.
I met up with my sister and some of her friends from work at Wild Willy's for lunch and then we headed up to The Ogunquit Playhouse to see Menopause The Musical. I had already seen the show with hubby in Boston a couple of years ago, but it's the kind of show you could see over and over again. If you haven't seen it and get the opportunity, you really should. It's hysterical (and pretty accurate too)!
Sunday's weather was much better! It cooperated with my plans of floating around in the newly set up pool. I worked at the gym in the morning; came home at noon, had some lunch, then spent a couple of hours napping on my float in the pool. It felt so good to just float around with the warmth of the sun on me. The nice weather didn't last,of course; it's cloudy today. But that's okay, I have to spend the day at work anyway.
I did do a little knitting and a little spinning over the weekend, but I have no pictures for you. So, I'll just distract you with a silly kitty picutre.
Ruby with Jay. I don't know what's up with Ruby's legs; she's just strange!
Have a great day!
This is pretty much what our sky has looked like all week. I'm just about sick of it and am more than ready for some sunshine! We are supposed to get some tomorrow, just in time to go back to work.
I haven't really done much this weekend; yesterday was spent lazing around the house all day. I did make a silly monkey head, though.
Just the head (with huge mouth); no body. I'm going to make a little mini-blanket to attach to this head. When Samm was a baby, she received a little mini-blanket with a teddy bear head and she loved that thing. It ended up being called Spot Bear because she always had to find the good spot (the stinky baby breath spot) to sniff and rub on her cheek while she sucked her thumb. One time when she was about 5 years old, she wanted to tie dye the blanket part. The directions on the tie dye kit said to iron it after dying it and the damn blanket part just sizzled up and died when the iron touched it. OMG; it was so traumatic. But we saved it by sewing the edges (which didn't burn and which just so happened to contain the "good spot") to the head. She still has that silly thing. Anyway, I've made a few animal heads with blankies attached for people having babies and this one is for my co-worker, Luke, whose wife is due in a couple weeks. He specifically asked for it (well, not the monkey, just an animal head with the blankie).
I've also been working on my "May Day" socks for the Sockamania Knit-a-long. I started these last Sunday at work and completed one 24 row repeat of the pattern and I finished the second repeat this morning at work. I'm ready to start the heel. I need to finish this pair by the end of the month for this knit-a-long and they'll also count as my SAM3 May socks. I had a little trouble with the pattern last week, but discovered it was because I was doing my Make one purlwise wrong. I was making it much more difficult than it had to be. I've got it figured out and it's going pretty smoothly now.
I'm using Trekking color #126. I ordered this yarn on e-bay the day I saw the socks Carole made with it. It makes me think of ice cream. I love it.
The Booga Bag is dry and ready to be assembled. I won't assemble it until tomorrow night at class, but here it is unassembled.
The color is most accurate in the big picture without the straps.
Now I have a confession to make: I didn't make it a full 24 hours without smoking. I'm not giving up though, and I'm not too proud to ask for help. So I called my doctor and got in for an appointment to get a new drug I've been hearing about. Apparently, this is pretty much a miracle drug. It is specifically for helping with quitting smoking. It blocks the nicotine receptors in the body so that the nicotine doesn't have the effect it normally does. I started taking it yesterday and am supposed to take it for a full week while still smoking and then quit on day 8. I'll continue taking the medication for a full 12 weeks (at which time I can decide if I want to do another 12 weeks). Supposedly, I should have no withdrawal symptoms once I quit. The doctor said it has been extremely successful and my sister told me about a friend of hers who has tried to quit multiple times over the years and was able to with this. She said that towards the end of the first week, she didn't really want a cigarette but had to continue until her "quit date" on day 8. She hasn't smoked in 10 or 11 weeks and never once craved one. I am so ready for this to work that I know it will. I'll keep you posted. Friday is my last smoking day; Saturday is day 8 - quit day.
Sorry I've been so lame about posting this week; I've been working on the blanket - joining, unjoining, rearranging, joining, unjoining, rearranging, joining..... Finally, I have completed joining the squares and am satisfied with the way they are arranged. I'm almost done with the border. Pictures tomorrow (and a return to more regular posting and knitting next week).
Have a great day!
It's a beautiful, warm sunny day. The clouds you see are just light, fluffy things spread out here and there. What a difference a few days makes!
Squares have been rolling in. Check out what I've received so far:
From Left to Right, top to bottom, squares made by:
Patti, Nora in Australia, Marianne in the UK, Marianne,
Gretchen, Gina & Amanda, Charity, Carole,
22 Squares and still more than a week to go until I plan to take a day off work and join them together.
Thank you to everyone who has sent squares and everyone who is working on a square! If the finished blanket gives Betty even half the comfort that receiving the squares has given me, she'll be well comforted indeed.
Pretty, no? It was a pretty nice day out today; not real warm, but not freezing either. I think maybe Spring is going to visit us here in Maine after all.
I do have some knitting to show you, but that will have to wait until tomorrow; right now I have to get ready to go out with Hubby to see Loretta Laroche.
But first, a kitty picture:
Marsha obviously wants to grow up to be Moogie!
This Saturday Sky brought to you from the front door of the gym at 6:30 this morning.
Yes, as soon as I decide to stop working Saturdays except to occasionally fill in, I get a phone call asking me to fill in! That's okay; after all the money I spent last weekend, the extra cash is welcome. That and the fact that I'm not working at all again next weekend; heading to Boston for the weekend so I can see my all time favorite musician in the whole wide world - B.B. KING! I love that man.
There has been knitting accomplished; and the elephant has been stuffed and given some eyes and a scarf; and the big ball sweater has been started. I'll post pictures and updates on all that tomorrow. For now, I'm going to do a bit more knitting and get to bed early - must get up at the ungodly hour 4:45 again tomorrow!
Goodnight :)
