I've been trying to think of a way to do something for Betty. Those of you who have been reading for a while know that Betty is a dear friend and co-worker who is battling Multiple Myeloma (you can read more about her in this post from last summer). What I've come up with is to wrap her in love. As I've told you, I've shared your warm thoughts and good wishes with her and it truly touches her that people she doesn't even know are thinking of her. Betty has hooked rugs for many years and knows the true value of a handmade gift. She knows the love that goes into it. I'd like to give her something tangible to help her remember that there are people all over who care about her.
Can you see where this is going? This is where I'm asking for your help. Do you think you could find the time to knit or crochet a single square to be added with other squares to make a blanket for her. My hope is that every time she wraps herself in that blanket, she'll feel comforted knowing how many people care about her.
If you would like to contribute a square, please make one 8" square (worsted weight) and send it to me during the month of April. I'll then join the squares together into a blanket of love and hope, and give it to her early in May. If you'd like to attach a note along with your square, I think that would be wonderful.
ETA -Thanks for the response already!
Answers to some questions:
* any color is fine; I think Betty would enjoy a blanket of many colors.
*the yarn can be washable or not; all I ask is that it is soft and worsted weight.
Please leave me a comment here if you'd like to help and I'll send you my snail mail address.
Thanks :-)
I would be so happy to knit a square. Do you have a color preference?

I would love to help out. Besides color, do you want machine wash or does it matter?

Of course I'll knit a square for Betty. Do you have a particular color scheme in mind?

Sure I'll send you a square. Let me know the answers to the questions above...color? machine wash? wool? soft? I have some malabrigo in lettuce green that would be super soft.

OF COURSE! Count me in to knit a square. Could you suggest a yarn so that we have an idea of what you're thinking of? I'm also willing to get together with you to help sew squares together if you'd like. I'll happily make the trek to York!
Let me know, friend!

I just found your blog and requests for squares for Betty (came over from Amanda's site "NHKnittingMama"). I'd love to knit a square for Betty. Cancer has touched the lives of several of my loved ones in recent years, and I think your idea of wrapping Betty in a blanket of love and warmth is such a beautiful one!
Will you send me your address so I can send you a square?
Thanks, Tempe
