Don't you just love seeing a knitter friend's first sweater and sharing in their joy? I know I do. Last night at Chicks with Sticks, Lisa showed off her first ever sweater and what could I do? I couldn't let the moment pass without recording it for history (and for blog material):
What a fantastic job she did on this sweater. And look at it; it isn't even just a plain sweater. Here's a close up of the pattern:
WoW, I am just so impressed.
As for my knitting, well let's just say I'm not feeling so impressed. Check out this fugly sock I'm working on. The yarn is Opal sport weight (or dk weight or something like that). I'm really hating the way it is striping. I don't like that the stripes are all the same size (except that one in the middle - what's up with that?) and I really thought there'd be more brown in it. I mean, look at the ball, there is definitely brown there. I have knit the entire leg, turned the heel, and am starting the gusset and still no brown. I did pull some yarn out and brown is the next color in line, but come on; don't you think there should be more? Oh, and as far as having matching socks - I'm thinking not. I haven't even worked one complete color pattern repeat and I just know that I'm gonna end up with the toe being at the point where I'd need to start the second sock if I want them to match. There just isn't enough yarn in the ball to pull out that much. What's a girl to do? Guess I'll just finish the fugly socks and make sure they are always hidden away in my shoes.
On a happier note, I finished another hat for Rabbitch's hat drive. Again, just a plain ole stockinette stitch, knit in the round hat with a k1p1 rib.
Oh crap, I just went to get the picture and realized I didn't upload it to Flickr this morning. Guess you'll get that picture tomorrow.
That's it for today. Have a good one!
Congrats on your friends' sweater! What a beauty! Have fun with the fugly socks! It can't be THAT bad, right?

Well, Lisa is putting me to shame, that's for sure! Great job!I keep reminding myself that the sox are hidden inside my shoe...it helps me to live with the errors.

I like the socks! I don't think they are in the least bit fugly.

Gee, I really like the socks, too, except for, you know, the brown.

Your friend's sweater is great! Congrats to her. As someone who finished her first sweater just a couple months ago, I can understand the excitement.I have learned that I really don't like self-striping yarn. So I'd be grumpy at those socks, too. But it looks like you have lots of volunteers to take them off your hands if you don't like them when you're done :-)

Hey, great job on the sweater Lisa. I got to see it in progress. I'm only sorry I wasn't there to see it finished. And I think the socks look fun. The self striping still amazes me.Ruth
