I first met Betty about 11 years ago when her son and my daughter were in the 5th grade. Betty was the Teacher's Aide in my daughter's class. My daughter loved her being in the classroom - she made class fun. Betty is a kid at heart, full of fun and laughter.
Later, Betty came to work part time at the Town Hall. We all love her and want to help her however we can.
Last year, Betty formed a team of her family, friends, and co-workers (both from the school and Town Hall) to walk in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual "Light the Night" walk in York Beach. We were called "Betty's Boops". Betty's team was one of the top 3 fundraisers in York Beach that year. Betty's Boops will be walking again this year on September 30th and we hope to raise even more. This is where you come in:
If you are able, please go to my fundraising page: http://www.active.com/donate/ltnbcom/noolie and make a donation. Any size donation will be greatly appreciated - every penny counts! If you'd like to make a donation, but prefer to send a check, you can make it out to "The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society" and mail it to my office: Julie Schramm; C/O Town of York; 186 York St; York, ME 03909.
Oh, you want to know how to win a prize? Well, there will be 2 ways to win:
1) Your name will be entered in a drawing once if you make a donation and
2) Your name will be entered twice if you donate AND post about it (and put a link) on your blog (there's a button/link in my sidebar)
After the walk, I'll have the Hubby or daughter draw some names to win the prizes. What's that? You want to know what the prizes will be? Well, I'm in the process of getting the prizes together and I'll post pictures soon. Rest assured though, that they will be very good prizes of the knitting/crocheting variety.
Please leave a comment or send me an e-mail if you donate/post and let me know whether you knit, crochet, or do both so I don't send a knit prize to someone who only crochets or a crochet prize to someone who only knits.
Betty sounds like a great lady. And a lucky one to have such a supportive network!

Hello,I'm new to your site, courtesy of JenLa. My dad has lymphocytic leukemia, and the society has been a tremendous support to him and my mom (also to my grandfather, who had multiple myeloma). Donation made, and please keep us posted on Betty. She sounds like such a super lady.I'll try to do a post for you tomorrow or the next day. Thank you for supporting such an important cause.
