Cascade 220 worsted weight wool (2) or any worsted weight yarn to obtain gauge
Crochet hook size I (or size to obtain gauge for hat)
Split ring marker (for hat)
Gauge: 16 sc and 18 rows = 4”
abbreviations: ch=chain, dc=double crochet, sc=single crochet, st=stitch, tog=together
SCARF:
Chain 24
Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook and each chain across; ch 1 and turn(23 stitches)
Row 2: Sc in each st across; ch 3 (counts as 1st dc in next row) and turn
Row 3: skip 1 sc, 2 dc in next sc (v-stitch formed), *sk 2 sc, 2 dc in next sc* to within 2 sc of end, dc in last sc, ch 3 and turn. (7 v-stitches)
Row 4: 3 dc in middle (between stitches) of ea v-stitch across, 1 dc in top of ch3 at end of row; ch 1 turn (7 groups of 3dc)
Repeat rows 2-4 until scarf is length desired Sc 2 rows and bind off. Block scarf to bring out design.
HAT:
Chain 78, join with slip stitch to form circle (being careful not to twist)
Row 1: ch 1, sc in ea chain around; join with sl st
Row 2: ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in first sc (v-stitch formed), *sk 2 sc, 2 dc in next sc* repeat from * around, join with sl st in center of first v (between stitches)
Row 3: ch 3, 2 dc in middle of v-st, 3 dc in middle of ea v-stitch around, join with sl st in top of beginning ch 3
Row 4: ch 1, sc in first st and each st around, join with sl st (78 st) Rows 5-8: repeat rows 2 thru 4 one time
Next rows: ch 1, sc in first sc, place marker in stitch just made, sc around to marker continue sc around, replacing marker each time you come to it, until piece measures 5 ½ inches. (do NOT start these rounds with ch 1)
Crown shaping: Row 1: (sc 2 tog, sc 11) around
Row 2: (sc 2 tog, sc 10) around
Row 3: (sc 2 tog, sc 9) around
Row 4: (sc 2 tog, sc 8) around
Row 5: (sc 2 tog, sc 7) around
Row 6: (sc 2 tog, sc 6) around
Row 7: (sc 2 tog, sc 5) around
Row 8: (sc 2 tog, sc 4) around
Row 9: (sc 2 tog, sc 3) around
Row 10: (sc 2 tog, sc 2) around
Row 11: (sc2 tog, sc 1) around
Row 12: (sc2 tog) around
Join with sl st and bind off leaving a 6" tail. Thread tail in tapestry needle and thread through the final round of stitches and pull tight. Weave in ends
