This was taken last night around 8:00. Obviously, we still had no power. But, I was determined to still give it my best. Only problem was that my best is pretty damn slow in the dark! Bad enough I'm knitting by lantern and flashlight, but my yarn is such a dark color that it was extremely hard to see. I may have been knitting, but I was knitting slower than I have knit in years! At this point I can say congratulations to my opponent; she isn't finished yet, but she has 2 socks already at the heel! This is what I have:
That's it. One sock almost ready to start the heel flap. Not much chance of catching up. That's okay; I still had fun and I'll still plug away at these. I really do like this pattern.
Our power was out for well over 24 hours! It went out the other night sometime between 2:30 and 4am and didn't come back on until this morning at 5:30! CRAZY! Good thing my freezer was just about empty anyway, because everything that was in there is no longer frozen. Ah, the joys of living in Maine.
Here's a shot of my mutant Pussy Willow "bush" this morning:
It's the big mess laying on the ground. My hubby got this "bush" for me several years ago for my birthday. We call it the mutant Pussy Willow because the stupid thing grew to over 20 feet tall! All the fluffy pussywillows were way up on the top. Oh well, hopefully it'll grow again and we'll keep it trimmed so that it stays a bush and doesn't grow back up into a friggin tree!
I need to take a moment here to tell you how overwhelmed I am with the response to my request for squares to make a blanket for Betty. I am so grateful to all of you. Betty is going to be so happy with this! Once again, the knitting community comes together to show how much they care. I'll be posting pictures as the squares arrive. There is still time if you want to make a square. I'll be collecting them through the end of this month and plan to put them together the first week of May.
Have a great Day!

I give you bonus points for knitting by lamplight! Hardcore. :) Have a great weekend!

Amazing....although I would've been doing the same thing...and no kidding, you look like a 'kid' sitting there!
Love the sock!
Mutant pussy willow....cracked me up. even the wild ones around here don't get that large!
I am also so touched by the very fine knitterly folks that came over from my blog, this will be a wonderful blanket for Betty!
Have a good weekend and may be power stay with you!

Yikes! When is it going to be Spring? Stay warm.

A headlamp would have come in handy yesterday! Sorry you lost your power for so long. We had a lot of tree damage but still had the power all day.
Posted by: Brenda | Apr 06, 2007 at 10:19 AM
So we're both out in this round, eh? That's kind of good because I wouldn't have wanted to compete again you!

Don't feel bad, electricity is an unfair advantage. Your opponent should feel guilty for resorting to that to win a sock competition. :)

I use the headlight from a sporting store. Too bad the lighted needles don't come in tiny sizes, and don't come in double points....they'd be perfect! Don't people who knit without electricity get double or triple credit per inch knit?

I love how the sock is turning out!! Bummer about the no-electricity. You win the Extreme Knitter award!! Neither, snow, sleet, etc..stopped you from knitting your socks! I love pussy willows!

I have no excuse for today's sock knitting difficulty. I have the day off and plenty of light. Oddly enough the one I knit in the dark yesterday came out just fine. But, you're right. It's sloooooow knitting.

Oh my gosh...knitting by lantern. That's what I call DEDICATION! Your photos (and the sock, of course) are gorgeous. Stay warm and have a wonderful weekend!

What a sad day....sock knitting called on account of darkness. Oh well. Did all the pet survive?

Oh, my goodness! I LOVE your extreme knitting! Only the very devoted knitters would be knitting by oil lamps!
The sock is coming out great and I love the color. So glad your power came back on!

Hardcore knitting. I think you deserve points for knitting in the dark too.
Posted by: Amy Boogie | Apr 06, 2007 at 04:21 PM
Look at you knitting in the dark, and on a sock no less!!!! The mutant pussy willow title is a riot, at least you include "willow" in the title! So I thought maybe pruning one is like pruning a forsythia, you can cut out 1/3 at a time. Check out this url, the first thing they say is to prune or you get a 20 foot shrub! http://landscaping.about.com/cs/hedgesfences/a/pussy_willows_2.htm

Wow, that is a fantastic picture of you knitting by lamplight. Did you get word for sure that your opponent finished yet? Is it down to just the 2 of you?
